Playful Passage n.9
Hello lovelies,
I'm slowly coming to rest. It's raining today and I'm thinking of a quote that dear Hinnerk Polenski sent me as a postcard a few days ago:
Go into the forest - no one is there anymore.
Since I've been back from Norway, I've been pulled back into a ‘functioning’ version of myself pretty quickly. At the same time, when writing this passage, I realise that I don't want to function, that I don't want to keep to a schedule, but rather feel, disappear completely in and between the lines, only to reappear at the end of the text. It is this being present that runs through my work and also through the experience of the play Insighttopia. Silence - awareness - the next step. Hai!
It's bubbling. At the moment, several tectonic shifts in the architecture of the game project are happening in parallel:
- We are trying our first steps on Instagram to take our game to the right people. So if you have the feeling that people in your circle would be as enthusiastic about our game as you are, please seize the moment, follow us and share a post.
- Planning a psychological study to validate the positive influence of Insighttopia on inner and outer authenticity and other positive psychological phenomena. When the time comes, there will be a call for test subjects. If you are already interested, please reply directly to this message and I will make a note of you.
- Fine-tuning the game mechanics for more authenticity and flow. Through ongoing play tests and a conversation with a therapist and mentor friend, I came across one or two realisations in the last few days. For example, I was able to test the symbol cards in a psychological group therapy context, which led to the idea of playing with face-up instead of face-down symbol cards. Here, all the Insight Eggs are placed on the floor and each player selects the three symbols that best help them to solve the puzzle. Another development is the conclusion of the game with a kind of ‘sharing round’, in which each player reveals their secret missions and shares their insights and game experience with the others. The others do not interrupt and simply listen. In addition, the secret missions are aligned with the example of self-determination theory (Deci & Ryan) and basic psychological needs in order to further deepen the gameplay and intensify the feeling of a ‘safe space’.
Playful practice 😜: Let them help you
A few days ago, I sat in a group therapy session from acceptance and commitment therapy. At the beginning of the session, we distributed (Insighttopia-)cards on the floor of the room. Everyone chose a card that they were currently feeling and that expressed a personal superpower, a personal value. One woman did not find a card that fitted and withdrew to her chair. We asked her if it would be okay for the group to help find out what her value, her superpower might be. She agreed and within a few minutes the previously desperate situation had brightened up. The group found not just one power, but several and the woman was able to accept them. The energy in the room rose and I was almost grateful that the lady didn't find a suitable card. She had done herself and everyone else a favour.
